Rich in history, the land on which Oakland House was built was acquired in 1767 through a grant from Britain's King George, 9 years before the signing of the Declaration of Independence and has been handed down to direct heirs ever since. On July 4th, 1889 the newly renovated King George of England homestead was opened as the Oakland House. Oakland House welcomed Rusticators arriving by steamship to at the property shoreline at Herrick's Landing and currently serves a popular, rustic, summer vacation resort.
